Not Enough Time

You don’t have the time to completely transform your home in a few hours in one weekend. So why bother? Also, if you live with other people, you can’t control them and their tidying habits. Again, what’s the point. You convince yourself that you don’t really care about that stuff and that people who do care have some magical combination of time and people in their homes who are all on the same page. So yay for them. That feels entirely out of reach…

Stop right there. Breathe in and out. There’s always a way forward.

What CAN you do in a few hours on the weekend to turn up the joy vibes in your space? Here are a few examples of recent projects that clients have tackled in short weekend sessions with me.

  • Gathering alllll the papers from the corners of rooms, under beds etc. We started to separate out paper into rough piles for review, action and recycling. We didn’t finish it, but we got a solid running start. Sometimes getting started is the hardest part, and then it feels easier. When you can look at a pile of paper and know that there are no lurking bills, unaddressed matters, you can move through your day with a little more ease. (And if there were bills or other matters, well at least now you know.)

  • Closet light refresh. This may take longer than 3 hours depending on the volume of clothes, but in 3 hours, realistically you can tackle a subcategory (workout wear, professional, special occasion, maternity). Carry out decisions you’ve already made about items that no longer serve you in this season in life. And you can display items you love with more care, front and center, so that your closet becomes a more joyful place to start your day. A client who worked on her closet reported that her dog now likes to nap there. Dogs pick up on the good vibes.

  • High traffic spot like a mudroom/landing area/dining room. These areas can quickly attract other items that belong elsewhere. I worked with a client on clearing a dining room area, including the table and nearby craft supplies. We consolidated crafts and let go of some items that she had been thinking of letting go of and just needed support to carry out the decision.

You deserve a voice saying, yes do it. Do the thing that you know you want to do.
